Curriculum
"At key stage 5, the school has provided courses which appeal to students, such as forensic science. Sixth-form pupils enjoy the subjects they have chosen and participate confidently in lessons" - Ofsted, 2022
At Norbury High School for Girls, our sixth form curriculum is guided by the national 16 to 19 study programmes framework and designed to offer a rich, personalised educational experience. We offer a choice of level 3 qualifications across three distinct pathways: A level-only, BTEC Level 3-only or a blended pathway providing a broad and balanced mix of academic, creative and vocational subjects to suit individual aspirations and strengths.
Our curriculum is built to stretch, inspire and challenge students, preparing them for a wide range of destinations including competitive university courses, higher-level apprenticeships or direct entry to the workforce. Alongside core subjects, students have the opportunity to:
- Retake GCSE English Language and Maths, if required
- Study community languages to A level
- Pursue the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) via the dissertation route
- Engage in a wide range of enrichment and non-qualification activities
Enrichment opportunities including Core RE and PSHE support personal growth, character development and wider skills acquisition. In year 12, students undertake a structured work experience placement, further developing their career awareness and readiness for life beyond the sixth form.
Our curriculum is dynamic and evolves each year to meet the needs of the student cohort. The bespoke offer for the coming year, tailored to support ambitions while maintaining high academic standards and personal development opportunities, reflects this flexibility.
