Head Start Activities

Welcome to the sixth form course guides and Head Start Activities page for prospective year 12 students.

Transitioning to the sixth form is both a challenge and an opportunity and we are excited to support you on this next step. Our Head Start Activities are here to help you begin this journey with confidence.

Each department has created a set of Head Start Activities including suggestions and exploratory ideas designed to help you make a great start. These activities will give you the chance to get a feel for your chosen subjects, explore new concepts and stretch your thinking before September.

What should I do?

Take a look at the course guides at the bottom of this page for each A level or level 3 subject you are considering, then get involved by delving into the Head Start Activities set by our different departments. These might include:

  • Listening to podcasts by experts and inspirational women
  • Watching subject-related talks, interviews or documentaries
  • Reading key texts, articles or essays
  • Visiting exhibitions, galleries or special sites of interest linked to your subject
  • Exploring the wider questions and real-world challenges your subject addresses

Engaging with these activities over the summer will give you a valuable head start. While the work is optional, getting stuck in will demonstrate your enthusiasm for independent learning. In turn, this will help you confidently dive into sixth form study and conversations with your teachers when September arrives.

We hope you enjoy discovering more about your chosen subjects and are excited to begin working with you in the new academic year.
