Norbury High Supports Hurricane Melissa Relief Effort

Croydon schools come together to raise funds

Norbury High School for Girls was one of a number of Croydon schools, including fellow Wandle Learning Trust family-member Paxton Academy, that came together to raise funds for relief efforts taking place in Jamaica to support those affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Students and staff took part in a borough-wide non-uniform fundraiser on 21st November, many of them dressed in the colours of the Jamaican flag. A number of other events and activities were organised at various schools across Croydon.

The Norbury High community was able to raise over £600 as well as donating much-needed items ranging from nappies to tarpaulins, a meaningful contribution to the overall fundraising total from 27 schools in the borough which exceeded £10,000.

We would like to thank everyone – not only from the Norbury High community but from all the schools involved – who donated or contributed by organising events such as bake sales. The community spirit shown was very moving; the efforts made highlighted the positive impact that can result when schools work together to help others.
