Students at Norbury High were celebrating on GCSE results day after achieving more top grades (9-7) this year than last year across six subjects: English language, Spanish, psychology, sociology, PE and art and design.

Among those celebrating were Sofia Noorzad, who received six grade 9s and three grade 8s; Aizza Shahid (four 9s and three 8s); Palakshi Sharma (three 9s and four 8s); and Hadia Ahmadi (one 9 and eight 8s).

The school also achieved a Progress 8 measurement of +0.59 which would ordinarily* have placed it in the WELL ABOVE AVERAGE banding.

In English there was another fantastic Progress 8 figure of +1.03 reported (an improvement on last year's +0.87 score). The Progress 8 figure for maths also gained ground, with the school delivering its best progress results in mathematics since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mrs Hayden, Headteacher, said: “We are immensely proud of our year 11 students. The improvement in our Progress 8 figure to +0.59 (well above average) is a significant achievement despite not being formally recognised externally this year*.

“We are especially pleased with the excellent progress in English, the continued improvements in maths and the very strong performance across our EBacc subjects.

"These results reflect the hard work and resilience of our students, alongside the dedication of our staff and the support of families."

* The government has stated "It will not be possible to calculate Progress 8 for academic years 2024 to 2025 and 2025 to 2026 due to gaps in the baseline caused by COVID-19 disruption."
