Norbury High School for Girls

Sixth Form Transition Programme

Overview

Our Sixth Form Transition Programme is a one-year level 2 study plan tailored to the needs, starting points and aspirations of our students that helps them access our sixth form offer equitably and appropriately. The programme supports students who wish to remain at Norbury High but who do not yet meet the standard entry requirements for level 3 courses; it provides a structured and supportive route into further study.

Structure

The programme runs for one academic year and combines:

  • Level 2 qualifications at GCSE
  • Targeted academic and personal development support
  • Independent study and enrichment opportunities

This blended approach is designed to prepare students both academically and personally for progression onto level 3 courses.

Course Offer

Students will study a combination of GCSE subjects, which may include:

  • English (literature or language)
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Citizenship
  • Media Studies
  • PSHE

Entry Requirements

To be considered for the programme, students must have:

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language

NB progression ceiling: students achieving 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and/or maths, will not be eligible as direct progress into level 3 study is available locally.

Pathways After the Programme

The transition programme is designed to support progression into a range of academic and professional pathways, including:

  • Health and social care, medical science and social science pathways leading towards medical and health-related professions
  • Social science, humanities and English blended pathways supporting progression to university and professional careers
  • Alternative level 3 pathways with local providers, where appropriate
